Mi A1 (2018) ?

Good Evening Folks !
Although launched/announced in early 2017, The SD660 took its time and is now slowly gaining popularity. Xiaomi launches its Mi6X with this chipset and lets find out how good is it.

We hope this phone makes its globally with Android One moniker. Not sure what it will be called - Mi A1 2018 or Mi A2 ? ( btw, A1 stands for Android One )

The specs

• Powered by SD660 with 4/6 GB RAM.
• Cameras : Dual camera setup at the back with 12 MP Sony IMX 486 and 20 MP Sony IMX 376. The front one is also the same 20 MP Sony IMX 376 snapper.
• 5.99 inch IPS LCD Display with Full HD+ resolution. (Same as Redmi Note 5 Pro).
• MIUI 9.5 on top of Android 8.1 (with Project Treble).
• 3000mAh Battery with QC3.0 support.
• Cherry Pink, Flame Red, Sand Gold, Glacier Blue, and Black Color variant.

The highlight of the presentation was AI and cameras.

The company boasts cameras which capture sharper and more vibrant portraits. The company even claims AI enhancements for over 200 scenes, including 12 different portait modes.
The back has a dual camera setup with a 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor and a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor. Based on lighting conditions, the phone can automatically decide which acts as the primary sensor. For low-light night shots, the IMX376 sensor uses "pixel binning technology"  which combines info from four pixels into one, resulting in a large 2.0µm pixel that capture more light. The large f/1.75 aperture also helps in providing clearer images in low-light conditions. The other camera with 1.25µm pixel IMX486 sensor also has an f/1.75 aperture.
The front camera uses the same "pixel binning technology" which combines the information from four pixels to create one large 2.0µm pixel. This supposedly improves the sensor’s light sensitivity, enabling users to capture clearer and brighter images, as well as better videos, in low-light conditions. It can also take portraits (even without a secondary sensor ) through some kind of "depth technology" which enables the camera to effectively distinguish the subject from the background.
The camera also has an "AI translation feature" which apparently translates menus and user manuals when camera is pointed at it.
 
Another "AI thing" from the presentation was the launch of  "Xiao Ai voice assistant". It is capable of  understanding commands in six different categories.

When watching a video, something called "AI shopping feature" can be used to detect objects on the screen and make online purchases instantaneously.

Another function called “AI Identify” can calculate the calories of certain foods. Guess these AI features will be limited to chinese market only.
 
There wasn't enough space for a headphone jack while the Infrared sensor somehow is retained. (sarcasm intended). 

Price,Availability and competition:

The phone costs about $250/₹16k-17k.
The phone is rumored to be launched globally with android one (fingers crossed)
If launched globally(and India), the phone will be well below ₹20k. The phone offers similar specs and features to Nokia 7 plus at a much cheaper price(That is Xiaomi's moto). Its bound to dent Nokia's market here. I hope it releases soon.
